Digs hole in ground, up to 19.7 in (50 cm) deep, and lines it with silk. Aboveground, tube extends for several inches (centimeters). Tube is covered with sand and debris, which makes it difficult for predators to see, but easy for spider to capture prey. Often lies at bottom of tube, folded up in a compact shape. Because it hides so deep in ground, it is difficult to find. It is fearful, often unable to move when disturbed by unforeseen circumstances. When in fear, it often sticks out fangs. It often lives in colonies.
