Specific Challenges of Epidemiology in Aging Research

When looking at the epidemiologic literature, it is surprising to see how limited evidence from epidemiologic studies is available on health outcomes for the elderly. Similar to the situation in clinical studies, older people have often been excluded from epidemiologic studies, and evidence from studies conducted among younger age groups have often been generalized without adequate attention to the limited age range studied. There may be multiple reasons why epidemiologic findings for the elderly are so limited.
