Rnadna Chaperones

The DEAD box proteins (e.g., the viral SV40 T-protein and the mammalian homolog p68) are RNA chaperones, as probably the RecQ proteins are DNA chaperones (Kroll, 2004). Hsp90 is unique among the protein chaperones due to its unconventional highly conserved Bergerat ATP-binding fold shared by the DNA gyrases and DNA-mismatch-repair enzymes. Probably the Hsp90 machinery includes DNA in its chaperoning activity; possibly serving as a chaperone for the reverse transcription of telomeric DNA, in analogy to its requirement for the hepatitis B virus reverse transcriptase function (Hu et al., 2004).
