Removal of infected animals from the colony, a method known as stamping out, has been found to be efficient for some infections. In practice, this has most successfully been applied as a tool against infection with Encephalitozoon cuniculi in rabbits,226 in which the method is performed by current serological testing of all breeding animals and consequent removal of all positive responders. The success for this agent is probably related to its complicated life cycle, while more simple infections easily spreading among the offspring may not become totally eliminated by this method.
