The treatment group received an initial dose of argatroban 2 mg/kg/min via continuous iv infusion. The aPTT was measured at least 2 h later, and dosage was adjusted (up to 10 mg/kg/min, maximum) until the aPTT was 1.5-3 times the baseline aPTT value (not to exceed 100 s). The aPTT was measured daily and 2h after each dosage adjustment. Patients remained on argatroban for up to 14 days, until the underlying condition resolved or appropriate anticoagulation was provided with other agents.
