Quality Control in Washed Platelet Assays for HIT

The variable reactivity of donor platelets to HIT sera is an important issue in activation assays for HIT. It has long been recognized that inconsistent results can be obtained using these assays (Salem and van der Weyden, 1983; Pfueller and

David, 1986; Warkentin et al., 1992).
