Mining Genomes

The Human Genome Project

The first successful efforts to clone single genes and to determine the sequence of DNA molecules began in the 1970s. Less than two decades later, techniques and strategies were being developed to organize and sequence clones that covered the entire human genome. Today, the sequence of our genome is freshly available. This exercise will introduce you to some of the tools that are used to organize, retrieve, and understand information derived from the Human Genome Project.
