Cultivarsand Landraces

The TGRC maintains a collection of 198 modern and vintage cultivars, inbreds, and breeding lines for various purposes, kept mainly to provide isogenic (or nearly isogenic) stocks for specific mutants, standards for genetic comparison, sources of disease resistances, or other purposes. Another 226 cultivated tomato accessions are Latin American landraces assembled from various sources, mainly collected from local markets in Latin American. Much larger collections of cultivars are preserved at USDA-PGRU and AVRDC, with 4,914 and 5,311 accessions, respectively (Table 4; Robertson and Labate 2007).
