Gender, race/ethnicity, and income were examined with respect to DSS, and no significant correlation was found (4). However, the age of the patient at presentation was significantly associated with survival (4), with the five-year survival for patients aged over 75 years being 22% compared to 33% for patients aged 60 to 75 years and 34% for those younger than 60 years (P < 0.0001).
