Veterinarians outside of a practice do not have need for an EVR system. These veterinarians often use other electronic systems to record the health of animals. For example, veterinary pharmaceutical companies collect industry-level data. The information on sale of individual animal health medications can provide a useful system for monitoring the health of an industry. It will be necessary to aggregate data across competing companies to control for changes in individual company market share. Companies are likely to be reluctant to make raw data available to third parties. Systems that use information brokers and can de-identify data may be needed to encourage compliance.
