Atypical Depression

A placebo-controlled double-blind study of chromium picolinate (600 fjg/day) for 8 weeks was conducted in 1 5 patients with DSM-IV major depressive disorder, atypical type. Seven (70%) of 10 patients receiving chromium picolinate and none of the placebo group responded to treatment. Six subjects in the chromium group also experienced remission compared with none in the placebo group. However, a significant difference was not detected in the Hamilton Depression Scale at the end of treatment (Anon 2003, Davidson et al 2003).
