1 major + 2 or more minor criteria in the presence of supporting evidence of preceding streptococcal infection. Major criteria

• polyarthritis

• chorea (involuntary abnormal movements)

• subcutaneous nodules

• erythema marginatum

Minor criteria

• previous RF or rheumatic heart disease

• arthralgia

• raised ESR/C-reactive protein

• ECG—prolonged PR intervals
